Google Wash. D.C Offices - Dec 5, 2013
Keynote Speaker – Sergio Alvarez, COO Ai Media

Today over 120 million Americans report doing a government related activity online in the past twelve months - whether that be researching a health or safety issue, or applying online for a service or benefit. And many of those looking to get government information are Hispanics living in the U.S. - foriegn born, Spanish-dominant, and bilingual - and these audience segments require specific considerations for government communications.

The U.S. Hispanic digital market is growing more than double the rate of the overall U.S. digital audience. Between 2012 and 2017 the number of U.S. Hispanic internet users will rise from 32.5 million to 44.9 million; Hispanics will also experience the fastest percentage gains in internet usage through 2017 (EMarketer, 2013). Moreover, mobile internet is surpassing desktop - and Hispanic consumers are at the forefront of this change, with 76% of Latino internet users going online via mobile device - more than both whites and African-Americans (Pew Internet, 2012). This will force government communicators to re-examine how they conduct outreach to this audience - whether encouraging immediate action, educating on meaningful issues or engaging the audience to make smarter, healthier lifestyle choices.

For government marketers and their communication agencies, the opportunity is now to move beyond traditional methods and use new technologies to reach this audience.
